Video filter stops at 300 seconds: which short-video lengths pass?
Sume's video filter refuses sources over 300 seconds. A 3-minute Short passes; a 10-minute TikTok ad source does not and needs a trim first.

Sume's video filter takes sources up to 300 seconds and returns output_duration_exceeded beyond that. A 180-second Short passes and so does a one-minute ad cut. A 10-minute source does not. Cut it first with video trim, then filter the piece. Both calls are cheap: the docs state $0.02 per filter encode job, and the check endpoint is free.
Which lengths pass
Platform limits are from YouTube Help and TikTok Ads Help, read 2026-10-04. The 300 s source cap is in the video filter docs.
| Length | Source | Passes filter? |
|---|---|---|
| 180 s | Longest Short | Yes |
| 300 s | Filter cap | Yes, the limit |
| 301 s | Just over | No |
| 600 s | TikTok in-feed ad maximum | No, trim first |
Trim, then filter
Both calls need media on media.sume.com. Video trim returns a new artifact URL; feed it to POST /v1/video-filter/check for free, then to the encode. The check does not create a job or touch the encoder, but a program that passes can still fail on the box, so read the job result.

On a deploy, abort waitForJob with an AbortController on SIGTERM, keep the Sume job id, and resume the wait after restart. Aborting stops the wait, not the job.
