Sume video filter accepts at most 8 ops[] entries (dim or crop) and an optional filters-only filtergraph of at most 2048 characters and 32 named filters, applied after the ops. Anything else is refused with a stable code, and the source clip must be 300 seconds or shorter. The numbers are from Video filter, read 2026-10-06.

What are the limits?

Limits and the code you see when you cross them:

What can the filtergraph not contain?

The graph has no inputs, no outputs and no paths, and it cannot use stream specifiers such as [0:v]; the server wraps it itself. trim and setpts are not on the allowlist (use video trim), nor are drawtext, subtitles, movie and lut3d, nor any filter that reads a file or a socket. Client fields such as vf, filter, ffmpeg, cmd, codec and crf return ffmpeg_fields_rejected.

How do I avoid paying for a bad program?

Call POST /v1/video-filter/check first. It runs the same schema, allowlist and source checks as the encode, returns valid, diagnostics[] and a compiled program.filters list, and creates no job and reserves nothing. A valid program can still fail on the box (memory, time, a bad expression), and then you get a structured job error.
