Upscale old footage past 30 seconds: chunk, upscale, reassemble
Sume video upscale takes up to 30 seconds per call at $0.009 per input second. Chunk a 5-minute tape with video-trim, upscale each piece and join with Timeline.

Sume's video upscale is priced at $0.009 per input second and takes at most 30 seconds per call, so a 5-minute tape goes in as ten 30-second chunks. The all-in estimate is $3.41: ten trim jobs, 300 s of upscaling, an audio detach for the spine and a 5-minute timeline.
Cost breakdown
| Step | Count | Unit price | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| video-trim into 30 s chunks | 10 | $0.02 | $0.20 |
| video-upscale, 300 s | 300 s | $0.009/s | $2.70 |
| audio-detach of the original | 1 | $0.01 | $0.01 |
| Timeline render, 5 min | 5 min | $0.10/min | $0.50 |
| Total | $3.41 |
One chunk
Trim a chunk with /v1/video-trim, then send its URL to the upscale route. upscale_factor runs 1.1 to 4, enhancement_tier is fast, standard or pro, and duration_seconds (1 to 30) sets the hold; omit it and Sume reserves 5 seconds.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-upscale-1.0/upscale \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: tape-chunk-01" \
-d '{
"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/tape-chunk-01.mp4",
"upscale_factor": 2,
"enhancement_tier": "standard",
"duration_seconds": 30
}'Reassembly
Put the upscaled chunks in video[] of Timeline 1.0 in order, with the detached original audio as the spine. Timeline reads only media.sume.com files of your workspace, so use the hosted URL the upscale job returns, and import it with POST /v1/media-imports if it is not already there. Whether an upscaled chunk keeps its audio is not something the docs state, so rely on the detached track.
Chunk arithmetic
Trim ten chunks with start 0, 30, 60 ... 270 and duration 30, then place them in video[] at the same starts. The spine is the detached audio with audio.duration_seconds 300, so coverage reaches the end of the spine. A source that does not divide evenly leaves a short last chunk: upscale it with its real duration_seconds and pay only for those seconds at $0.009 each.
