Upload a Sume render to YouTube Shorts: poll the job, download the MP4
YouTube's Shorts page says you can upload vertical videos saved on a computer or phone. Poll the Sume job, save the MP4, then set title, audience and privacy.

YouTube's Shorts page says you can upload vertical videos saved to your computer or smartphone. A Sume render ends as a job result: poll GET /v1/jobs/:id/status, read /result, download the MP4, then upload it in YouTube and set the title, audience and visibility there. Sume does not publish to YouTube.
What YouTube's page says
"Get started creating YouTube Shorts" (read 2026-10-05) says Shorts can be up to 3 minutes and describes uploading vertical videos from a computer or phone. In the upload flow it lists a title of up to 100 characters, a public, private or unlisted setting, an audience choice for kids, and a choice to publish or save as a draft.
Get the file out of Sume
Timeline 1.0 jobs are async by default, and sync mode waits up to 30 seconds. Send an Idempotency-Key so a retry does not create a second job, then poll status and read the result.
Replace the job id below with your own. The result carries the output artifact; download it with curl.
curl -s https://api.sume.com/v1/jobs/$JOB_ID/status \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY"
curl -s https://api.sume.com/v1/jobs/$JOB_ID/result \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY"Before you upload
Run video inspect on the downloaded file and compare its duration with 3 minutes and its size with what you expect. If the length is close, remember the page's limit is for the Short, and check it in the YouTube upload screen as well.
- Title: up to 100 characters.
- Visibility: public, private or unlisted.
- Audience: set the kids choice the upload form asks for.
- Draft: you can save instead of publishing.
Boundaries
This is a manual hand-off. If you need to check the current upload steps, use YouTube's page, as the screens change. Timeline renders cost $0.10 per ceil output minute at the docs' list rate; confirm in GET /v1/catalog.
