Udemy promo video at 90 s: an avatar intro in two clips
Udemy's guidance puts an ideal promo video near 90 seconds. A Sume avatar clip tops out at 60 seconds, so build the intro as two clips and join them.
Udemy's instructor guidance suggests a promo video of two minutes or less, with about 90 seconds as the ideal. A single Sume avatar talking video accepts an estimated 4-60 seconds, so a 90-second intro needs two jobs, each with its own script, joined afterwards.
What the guidance says
The page returned an access error when this post was checked, so the 90-second figure comes from search-result text for that page. Confirm it in the instructor help center before you render, along with any current video format requirements.

Match the avatar settings to 16:9
Sume's avatar video route supports aspect_ratio of 1:1, 3:4, 9:16, 4:3 and 16:9, defaulting to 9:16, and resolution is 720p. Udemy course video is usually landscape, so set 16:9 explicitly; leaving the default gives a vertical clip.
- aspect_ratio: 16:9, set explicitly.
- resolution: 720p is the only current value.
- quality: plus is the default; max is slower.
- Same avatar_handle on both clips.
Two clips, one intro
Write the script as two parts of about 45 seconds each, so both stay under the 60-second window with room for the estimate to differ. Submit each with POST /v1/avatar-1.0/talking-video and its own Idempotency-Key, poll status_url and read the results.
To join them, either place both MP4s in Timeline 1.0, or detach each audio track and concatenate the audio with timeline audio, which accepts 1-20 ordered parts. Keep the same avatar, scene and framing so the join is not visible. Add captions at the end if the course requires them.
