trending-research_search MCP tool: Reels and TikTok trends, $0.10
The hosted MCP tool trending-research_search finds trending Instagram Reels and TikTok videos for a niche at about $0.10 per search. YouTube is not supported.

trending-research_search is a hosted Sume MCP tool that searches trending Instagram Reels and TikTok videos for a niche. It posts to /v1/trending-research and costs about $0.10 per accepted search. It is discovery only: it returns metadata, with no CDN download, and YouTube is not supported (MCP tools and gates).
What you pass
The tool is a paid write call, so a client may ask the user to confirm it first. It does not need a generation runtime, because it reads public social content.
| Payload field | Use |
|---|---|
query | What the user typed. It wins when it is present. |
category | The niche from Brand DNA, used when there is no query. |
brand_position | The fallback when there is neither. |
limit | 1 to 24 results. |
Where it fits in a trend-reaction workflow
For a long-running trend watch, put the search inside the instructions of a scheduled agent, and let the schedule's spend cap bound the number of searches.
- Run it from an Agent that is asked what is trending in a niche today.
- Pick one result, and give its URL to a Format run as
input. - Do not use it to download the video. Fetch media only from sources you may use.
- If it answers that social discovery is not configured, stop and report it. Do not fall back to a text-only scan.
Search versus a trending-videos call
The trending-videos API is the direct REST call. The MCP tool wraps research for an agent and adds the Brand DNA defaults above. Pick the REST call for code you own, and the MCP tool for a client that already speaks MCP.
