Adobe says it completed the Topaz Labs acquisition and that Topaz Labs continues as a standalone brand, with its apps and models still sold standalone. If the news made you look at upscaling APIs, Sume's takes one public HTTPS image_url at POST /v1/image-upscale-1.0/upscale, with an optional upscale_factor from 1 to 4.

The acquisition facts are from Adobe's announcement; the Sume request is from the OpenAPI document behind the API reference, read 2026-09-30. This is not a comparison of output quality.

What did Adobe announce?

Adobe's post is dated 2026-09-23. It describes Topaz Labs as a company in video and image enhancement models, says the brand will remain, and says Topaz's apps and models will keep being available as standalone products. It also says Topaz technology will come into Adobe tools and workflows.

What does Sume's image upscale take?

The request schema is small, and it does not accept provider model ids.

Image Upscale 1.0 request fields in the Sume OpenAPI document, read 2026-09-30.
FieldRule
image_urlRequired; a public HTTPS image URL
upscale_factorNumber from 1 to 4; default 2
output_formatpng, jpg or webp; default png
metadataOptional object stored with the job; not sent to the provider
const res = await fetch("https://api.sume.com/v1/image-upscale-1.0/upscale", {
  method: "POST",
  headers: {
    Authorization: "Bearer " + process.env.SUME_API_KEY,
    "Content-Type": "application/json",
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({
    image_url: "https://example.com/photo.jpg",
    upscale_factor: 2,
    output_format: "png",
  }),
});
console.log(await res.json());

What does it cost?

The API pricing rate card lists Image upscale at $0.20 per image. Read the job result for the finished artifact; the same pattern as other Sume jobs applies, see Image upscale API.

Can an agent call it?

Yes. Sume's MCP docs list image_upscale_create among the tools. The same limits apply: the source must be a public HTTPS URL, and the factor tops out at 4. For an exact pixel target see upscale an image to an exact size.
