TikTok trending videos: yesterday vs this month window
Sume's trending video search takes six windows, from yesterday to all-time. Which to pick for a spike versus a steady trend, and what each default is.

Use yesterday in Sume's trending video search to see what just started moving, and this-month to see what has held up. The window field takes six values, and in production a generic query defaults to this-month if you send none.
The values and defaults are from the Trending videos docs. The docs do not describe how the ranking changes by window, so this post gives the choice rule, not a ranking claim.
Which windows exist?
| `window` | Reach for it when |
|---|---|
yesterday | You want the newest posts on a topic |
this-week | You review a keyword on a weekly schedule |
this-month | You want the production default for generic queries |
last-3-months | You are checking a topic that is not brand new |
last-6-months | You want a longer view of a subject |
all-time | You want the widest range |
What is the default window?
In production, generic queries default to this-month, and known SaaS profiles default to last-3-months. Send window explicitly so a call means the same thing next week as it does today.
How do I run the same keyword across two windows?
Two calls with the same query, one per window. Compare the watch URLs in each response: videos that appear in both have stayed relevant, while ones only in yesterday are new. Each accepted call is $0.10, so this costs $0.20 per keyword.
for W in yesterday this-month; do
curl -s -X POST "https://api.sume.com/v1/trending-videos/search" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d "{\"query\": \"standing desk\", \"window\": \"$W\", \"limit\": 10}"
doneWhich window should I start with?
Start with this-week for a new keyword, since it is short enough to show current activity and long enough to return a full list. Move to yesterday when you are watching a launch or an event as it happens, and to last-3-months when the topic is established and a week looks thin.
The trade-off is simple: a short window gives you fresh posts but fewer of them, and a long window gives you volume but older posts. Whatever you choose, record the window next to the results you save. A list of watch URLs without its window is hard to interpret a month later, and the same keyword can return different videos under a different window. See also the region guide for scoping the same search to a country.
Will a short window fill the limit?
Not always. The docs say the rebuilt feed does not pad off-topic or stale hits back to the requested limit, and that production keeps the legacy generic ranker with no extra relevance or view floor. Check how many results came back rather than assuming limit was reached. For a weekly routine, see [trending this week by keyword.
