TikTok ad profile photo is 98x98 under 50 KB: what Sume cannot output
TikTok in-feed ads want a 98x98 px profile photo under 50 KB. No Sume route outputs that size, so generate the picture and resize it outside Sume.

Sume cannot output a 98x98 pixel file, so you cannot generate your TikTok ad profile photo at the exact size on Sume. TikTok's in-feed ad page asks for 98x98 px, under 50 KB, in jpg, jpeg or png (read 2026-10-10). Generate or edit a picture on Sume, then resize and compress it in an image editor.
The spec
The same TikTok page lists the video side of the ad. The profile photo is a separate asset.
| Asset | Requirement on the page |
|---|---|
| Video, 9:16 | At least 540x960 |
| Video, 16:9 | At least 960x540 |
| Video, 1:1 | At least 640x640 |
| Profile photo | 98x98 px, under 50 KB, jpg, jpeg, png |
| Spark Ads | No restrictions on ratio, resolution, type, duration, bitrate or size |
Why Sume cannot hit it
The Image API chooses shape by aspect_ratio from each model's supported list, and size is a tier shorthand. The docs say Sume does not serve explicit pixels in v1. Even where a model documents custom pixels, for example the ChatGPT Image 2.5 family, both edges must be multiples of 16 and the image must have at least 655,360 pixels. 98 times 98 is 9,604 pixels.
Timeline 1.0 is the other place that sets size, and its width and height are even integers from 256 to 2160, so 98 is below the floor there too. Neither route can make a file this small.
This is worth stating plainly because it is easy to assume an image API can return any size. It can return the shapes the catalog lists, and the size you get back depends on the model. For a tiny avatar the right tool is a resize, which is a one-step job in any editor or an image library on your side. Sume does not claim to do it, and the post you are reading does not suggest a workaround inside Sume.
What to do instead
Use Sume for the creative and a local tool for the last step.
Design for the small size from the start. At 98 pixels across, fine detail disappears, so ask for a bold, single-subject picture with a plain background and high contrast, and avoid text in the image. Generate at a larger square, check that the subject still reads when you view it at thumbnail scale, then resize. The 50 KB limit is easy to meet with a simple graphic and harder with a detailed photo.
- Generate a square image with aspect_ratio 1:1, and keep the face or logo centered with generous margin.
- Download it and resize to 98x98 in an image editor.
- Export as PNG or JPEG and check the size is under 50 KB. A flat-color logo compresses far smaller than a photo.
- Upload it in TikTok Ads Manager.
When you can skip it
The page says Spark Ads have no restrictions on ratio, resolution, type, duration, bitrate or size. A Spark Ad uses a post from an account, so the profile photo comes from the account instead of a separate upload. Check TikTok's Spark Ads page for how authorization works before you rely on it.
