Tavus Starter $59 for 100 minutes vs 100 minutes of Sume avatar video
Tavus Starter lists 100 minutes at $59 a month. Here is what 100 minutes of finished Sume avatar video costs at standard, plus and max, and why it is not equal.
The numbers side by side
Tavus lists Starter at $59 a month with 100 minutes, 3 custom AI humans, 3 concurrent conversations and $0.37 per extra minute. Growth is $397 for 1,250 minutes with $0.32 per extra minute (Tavus pricing, read 2026-10-05).
Sume prices a generated avatar clip per second of output. No product image: standard $0.184, plus $0.245, max $0.55 per second. Multiply by 6,000 seconds for 100 minutes.
| Option | Rate | 100 minutes |
|---|---|---|
| Tavus Starter plan | $59 per month for 100 min | $59 |
| Sume standard | $0.184 per second | $1,104 |
| Sume plus (default) | $0.245 per second | $1,470 |
| Sume max | $0.55 per second | $3,300 |
Why this is not an apples to apples line
Tavus minutes on a plan cover conversation time with an AI human in a live session. Sume seconds are rendered clips with a fixed script. A conversation can run quiet or short; a Sume clip is billed for its whole length at the tier rate. Use the table to size a budget, not to rank two different products.
The Sume figure also assumes every second is a talking video. A clip must land between 4 and 60 seconds, so 100 minutes is at least 100 clips of 60 s.
When each shape wins
- Interactive sessions where a viewer talks back: the Tavus plan model, billed in conversation minutes.
- Scripted ads, product explainers and episodic clips that you review before posting: Sume, priced per clip you actually generate.
- A small test: ten 10 s plus clips cost $24.50 on Sume, no monthly plan.
