Synthesia video quizzes are Enterprise-only; what Sume offers instead

Synthesia adds scored quiz questions and a pass threshold to videos on Enterprise only. Sume has no quiz component, only avatar clips you assemble yourself.

Synthesia's interactive questions and quizzes are available on its Enterprise plan only, and they run inside Synthesia's own video player. Sume has no quiz, scoring or branching component. What it gives you is the avatar video for each question, which you can embed in a quiz that your own app or LMS runs.

Synthesia's side is from its help article How do I add interactive questions to my Synthesia videos?. Sume's is from Generate avatar video and Timeline 1.0. Read 2026-10-02.

What does a Synthesia quiz include?

The help article lists three components: single answer (radio buttons), multiple answer (checkboxes) and Results. Each question can be marked scorable or non-scorable, and non-scorable ones give feedback without changing the score. The Results component sets a pass/fail threshold, can show a custom message, and can offer a Retry button that returns the viewer to the first question.

Flow control uses Always logic and If/Else logic, including several conditions joined by AND. Questions are blocking: the viewer must answer before moving on, and the timeline is hidden during a question. Synthesia also offers quiz analytics, but the article does not state which metrics.

What can Sume do toward the same goal?

Sume renders the talking part. You write a short script per question and submit POST /v1/avatar-1.0/talking-video with an avatar_handle, each clip sized 4-60 seconds. A silence scene gives a beat where your own UI can show answer buttons over the video. When the clips are done, POST /v1/timeline-1.0/render can join them into one MP4 if you want a single file.

The quiz itself lives outside Sume: your page decides which clip plays after a given answer, counts the score and shows the result. Sume does not store answers or return viewer analytics, and it does not embed a player with questions.

Quick comparison

The split is: Synthesia sells the quiz and the video together; Sume sells the video.

When should I pick which?

If your training team needs a scored quiz inside the video with reporting and has an Enterprise contract, Synthesia already does it. If you already own the learning platform and want to generate many short question clips, localize them, or regenerate one that changed, Sume's per-clip jobs fit. Submit each clip with its own Idempotency-Key so a retry never bills twice, and keep one avatar handle so the presenter stays the same across questions. The question clips comparison for Survey Sessions uses the same pattern.
