Sume RMBG costs $0.0225 per image: what the 1.25 margin adds
Sume's background removal is $0.0225 per image: an implied $0.018 list price times Sume's 1.25 ratio, so the margin is $0.0045 per image, or $4.50 per 1,000.

Sume's background removal model, sume/rmbg-1.0, costs $0.0225 per image. Sume's catalog describes that figure as the provider list price per image at the standard margin, and the standard margin is a ratio of 1.25. Working backwards, $0.0225 / 1.25 = $0.018 list, so the margin is $0.0225 - $0.018 = $0.0045 per image, or $4.50 per 1,000. The $0.018 is our arithmetic from Sume's own numbers, not a figure we read on a provider page.
The numbers
Everything in the table is derived from the Sume price and the 1.25 ratio documented for the Image API. Check the live price in the catalog before you rely on it.
| Item | Per image | Per 1,000 images |
|---|---|---|
| Sume price | $0.0225 | $22.50 |
| Implied provider list (price / 1.25) | $0.018 | $18.00 |
| Margin (price - list) | $0.0045 | $4.50 |
What the margin covers
Sume's docs say image endpoint pricing lines already include the Sume margin, and that you pay the line price times the number of images. In plain terms, you buy one consistent wallet, one API key, the same job envelope and status endpoints as every other Sume model, and one usage line in USD. Sume's catalog record names the underlying rate card as a Bria RMBG 2 card on a hosted provider, dated 2026-07-24.
- One bill and one
usage.costfigure instead of a separate provider account. - The same async job pattern: 200 within the wait, else 202 and a result URL.
- No provider keys to rotate.
- Failed generations are not charged, per the Image API docs.
When calling the provider directly is cheaper
At the implied list price, a direct call is $4.50 cheaper per 1,000 images. If you remove 100,000 backgrounds a month and already run a provider account, that is $450 a month (100 x $4.50), and it may be worth the extra integration. For a few thousand images a month the difference is a few dollars, and one integration is easier to run. We have not verified the provider's current list price on its own page, so confirm it before you do this arithmetic for real.
Cost of a batch
This sums the cost of removing backgrounds on a list of images by the Sume price, as a planning check only. It does not call the API.

The $0.018 figure is derived: $0.0225 divided by 1.25. If Sume changes the ratio or the rate card, the implied number changes too. The catalog record carries a rate-card version label dated 2026-07-24, so check it when you reproduce this arithmetic.
