Restyle an existing ad clip for Q4 with the Sume Restyle Format
Reskin last quarter's winning ad for the holiday season while keeping its motion and timing. How the sume-restyle Format works and what it cannot do.

If a summer ad already earns its spend, a Q4 refresh does not need a new script. sume-restyle is a catalog Format that takes your own clip and rewrites its look, such as a warm film palette and soft daylight, while keeping the motion, timing and cuts. Per the Format's own description it restyles the clip chunk by chunk with Seedance 2.5 reference-to-video, with each chunk planned at cut boundaries, and reassembles the chunks on the timeline.
What does Restyle keep, and what does it change?
| Part of the ad | Restyle behaviour |
|---|---|
| Motion, timing, cuts | Kept |
| Look (palette, light, product colours) | Rewritten from your brief and a product reference image |
| Audio | Your original track is re-attached only if you own it and ask for it; otherwise a generated music bed |
| Method | Chunk by chunk with Seedance 2.5 reference-to-video |
| Input | Your own footage plus a product still as the look reference |
How do I call it?
It is an ordinary Format run at POST /v1/formats/sume/sume-restyle/runs. Attach the product still as an image. The clip itself is footage you own, so give its media.sume.com URL in the brief or input; if it is hosted elsewhere, import it first with POST /v1/media-imports. Media in input counts toward the attachment budget of 30 files in total, with at most 10 videos and 10 audio files.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/formats/sume/sume-restyle/runs \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: restyle-holiday-001" \
-d '{
"instruction": "Restyle my clip: keep motion and cuts, warm winter light, red and gold accents",
"input": { "clip_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/summer-ad.mp4" },
"attachments": [{ "type": "input_image", "image_url": "https://example.com/pack.jpg" }],
"generation_spend_cap_usd": 40
}'How do I keep the cost bounded?
Restyle generates every chunk, so a longer clip is more generation. The cap in generation_spend_cap_usd is your ceiling per run (maximum $500; null means $500; platform default $400). Start with a 10 to 15 second clip. Video generation through Sume is billed at provider list times 1.25, and the catalog route shows the models and their prices in GET /v1/videos/models.
How should I brief the new look?
Describe the look as three things: the light (soft daylight, candle light), the palette (warm film, red and gold) and the product colours, which the attached product still anchors. Do not describe motion, because the Format keeps the motion of your clip. A brief that asks for new actions fights the method and tends to produce chunks that no longer match their neighbours.
Run it on your best-performing cut first. If the restyled version holds up on a small spend, repeat for the other cuts in the same ad family and queue them as a bulk run so the look stays consistent.
What are the limits?
- The catalog describes the method, not a similarity guarantee. Faces, hands and on-pack text can change between chunks; look at the output frame by frame before it runs as an ad.
- Decide the audio up front. The Format re-attaches the original track only for footage you own, and the new picture will not fix words in it, such as a summer offer; change those first.
- You need rights to the footage and to any person in it. A restyled clip of a real person is still that person.
- If a run cannot finish unattended, it returns
failedwithunattended_blockedrather than a half-finished video.
