Strava video longer than 30 seconds: cut the part you want
Strava crops activity videos to the first 30 seconds and shows 6 on mobile, 12 on web. Pick your 30-second moment with Sume video trim, $0.02 per cut.

If you upload a video longer than 30 seconds to a Strava activity, Strava keeps only the first 30 seconds. To choose a different 30 seconds (the sprint finish, the summit, the transition), cut it first. With Sume, one video trim job with start and duration: 30 returns a new MP4 of just that range, for $0.02.
What does Strava say about activity videos?
Strava's support page says videos up to 30 seconds are supported. If yours is longer and you want to choose which 30 seconds are included, Strava recommends cropping it in your camera roll; otherwise it crops the video automatically to the first 30 seconds. Portrait, panoramic, landscape and square aspect ratios are all supported.
There is no limit on how many videos or photos an activity holds, but the mobile app shows only 6 and the web shows 12. You can set a highlight image, reorder and delete.
When does Sume help instead of the camera roll?
The camera roll is the fastest way for one clip. A Sume cut earns its place when you do it from a script or an API: a club that uploads dozens of ride videos, a coach pulling the same moment from each athlete's file, or a run of clips in a folder. The table lists what each field of the trim does.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Strava video length | Up to 30 seconds; longer is cropped to the first 30 |
| Strava items shown | 6 in the mobile app, 12 on the web |
Trim start | In-point in seconds, at least 0 |
Trim duration | 0.2 to 900 seconds; exactly one of end or duration |
| Trim price | $0.02 per job |
| Source limit | Up to 1800 seconds |
How do I cut the 30 seconds?
Import the clip so it is a media.sume.com file. Send the trim with the in-point of your moment. Default precision is exact, a frame-accurate re-encode, which is what you want for a short highlight; keyframe stream-copies and the cut may begin a GOP early.

"start": 412,
"duration": 30,
"mode": "sync"
}'Why leave a margin under 30 seconds?
Strava says up to 30 seconds is supported. Strava does not say how it treats a file a hair over 30 seconds, so cut 29 seconds or less if you want headroom. The trim result reports duration_seconds, so you can check the actual length before you upload. The result also reports actual_start_seconds, which matters only on keyframe cuts.
Can I stitch several moments into one 30-second video?
Yes. Trim three 8-second moments, then join them in Timeline 1.0: $0.06 of trims plus $0.10 for the render. Set audio.mode to silence or keep the clip audio by detaching it first. Keep the output portrait or choose output.width and output.height for square. Because Strava accepts portrait, landscape, panoramic and square, the shape is your call.
