Squarespace course lessons: 5000 MB and 3 hours, vs 500 MB blocks
Squarespace limits differ by surface: video block 500 MB and 30 min, course lesson 5000 MB and 3 hours. Where a Sume trailer, lesson and loop belong.

On Squarespace the limit depends on where the video sits: a video block takes up to 500 MB and 30 minutes, a section background takes up to 500 MB and 60 seconds, and a course page lesson or a Videos page takes up to 5000 MB and three hours. So put a short Sume trailer in a block and keep full lessons on course pages.
Limits by surface
Squarespace's upload page (read 2026-10-10) lists the same file types for all of them: .mp4, .m4v and .mov. It states a minimum resolution of 360p, a maximum display resolution of 1080p and a maximum upload resolution of 4K. It lists a bitrate of 1.5 MBps for 360p and 3 MBps for 1080p, audio at 128k, and AAC-HE v1 and .mp3 audio codecs. It also says you can upload videos totaling up to 30 minutes on any site; read that line on the page before you plan a large library.
| Surface | File size | Length | Fit for a Sume output |
|---|---|---|---|
| Video block | 500 MB | 30 minutes | Sale trailer, product clip |
| Section background | 500 MB | 60 seconds | Looping hero cut with video trim |
| Course page lesson | 5000 MB per lesson | Three hours per lesson (storage allowing) | Full avatar or narrated lesson |
| Videos page | 5000 MB | Three hours per video (storage allowing) | Long cut |
Which Sume tool for which surface
For the block and the background, make short pieces. The Video Router offers seedance-2.5 at 4 to 30 seconds and Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 at 3 to 10 seconds, and video trim cuts the 60-second background from anything longer for $0.02 per job.
For a lesson, build it in Timeline 1.0: up to 200 video slots and 1800 seconds of output at $0.10 per output minute, rounded up. Squarespace displays at most 1080p, so there is no reason to render a lesson larger than 1920x1080; output.width and height accept even values from 256 to 2160, and 4K only adds file size without adding anything to what visitors see.

Squarespace sets the bitrate target (3 MBps at 1080p), and Sume has no bitrate field, so check the output of each render before you rely on a plan's storage. Squarespace's page is the only source for every number above.
- Sale-week trailer: one video block, under 30 minutes by a wide margin.
- Page background: a muted loop under 60 seconds, with audio dropped.
- Lessons: course pages, one render per lesson, 1920x1080.
- Captions: $0.20 per standalone caption job for videos up to 60 seconds; use authored cues for silent loops.
