Shoppable videos on Shop: make the vertical product clips with Sume
Shopify's Winter '26 Edition covers shoppable videos on Shop. How to produce a set of vertical product clips for a Shopify store from product stills with Sume.

Shopify's Winter '26 Edition describes shoppable videos on Shop with ranking, so a merchant with more product videos has more to rank. Shopify's page, read on 2026-10-01, is a product summary and not a spec sheet, so this post does not state its upload rules. For the supply side, a Sume bulk run can produce one vertical clip per product from the product stills you already have.

How do I make a clip per product?
Pick one catalog Format that fits your products. sume-product-commercial suits a hard good on a clean set, and sume-product-usage-demo suits something a person uses. Check the shape with GET /v1/formats/sume/{slug} and queue the SKUs as items. Up to 100 go in one queue and 1 to 16 run at a time.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/formats/sume/sume-product-commercial/bulk-runs \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: shop-clips-batch-001" \
-d '{
"concurrency": 4,
"items": [
{ "instruction": "9:16 gift ad for this mug",
"attachments": [{ "type": "input_image", "image_url": "https://example.com/mug.jpg" }],
"generation_spend_cap_usd": 15 },
{ "instruction": "9:16 gift ad for this candle",
"attachments": [{ "type": "input_image", "image_url": "https://example.com/candle.jpg" }],
"generation_spend_cap_usd": 15 }
]
}'How do the clips get into Shopify?
Sume does not publish to Shopify. Each finished clip is a URL on media.sume.com, which is durable and public; download it and upload it through your store's usual flow, or from a script of your own. Poll GET /v1/format-run-queues/{id}, and when the queue reads completed, check counts.failed before you upload.
How do I choose which products get a clip first?
Start with the products you already sell most. A clip is generation spend, and a first batch of ten gives you a real per-clip cost before you commit the rest of the catalog. Keep a list of the Idempotency-Key and run id for each item so a failed product can be rerun on its own; the cancel call for a child run is POST /v1/format-runs/{run_id}/cancel if one looks wrong while it is still running.
What are the limits?
- Shopify's page does not say whether AI-generated video is treated differently, so read its policies before you publish.
- A generated clip can drift from the real product. A shopper who sees a different product from the one that arrives is a returns problem; check labels and colours.
- Cost depends on the model and clip length; the platform default cap per run is $400, so set a lower one on a first batch.
- Sume does not edit your store or add the clip to a product listing.
