Is Seedance 2.5 open source? What the launch page says, and Sume
Searching Seedance 2.5 open source or Hugging Face? The launch page names Jimeng, Doubao Pro and a coming-soon API. How to call it on Sume.

Is Seedance 2.5 open source? The ByteDance Seed launch page (read 2026-10-05) lists no downloadable weights among its release details. It lists rollout on Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro and says the API is "coming soon via BytePlus ModelArk". So today the route to Seedance 2.5 is hosted: an app, or a provider API. On Sume it is a catalog id, seedance-2.5, that you call over HTTP.
What the launch page does list
That is a statement about the vendor's page on that day, not a claim about every ByteDance channel. If a weights release is announced, it will appear on the same Seed blog.
- Release date: 2026-07-31.
- Audio-video joint generation, up to 30 seconds per generation, with multi-round extension.
- Per pass: up to 30 images, 10 video clips and 10 audio clips as references.
- Editing features: timestamp-level audio/video editing, green-screen background replacement, camera perspective change, reference-based editing.
- Rollout: Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro; API "coming soon via BytePlus ModelArk".
Why a Hugging Face id is the wrong thing to look for
Sume's video model list has a hugging_face_id field in its schema, shown as null in the docs example for Seedance 2.0. For a hosted-only model there is simply nothing to download, so the field is the wrong place to learn about open weights; use the vendor's own announcement for that.
Calling it on Sume
The Video Router docs list seedance-2.5 with 4 to 30 seconds at 480p, 720p and 1080p. The same catalog is available through POST /v1/videos, which Sume recommends for new integrations. Discover the exact capabilities from the model list first:

-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY"How to decide between waiting and using the hosted route
The question behind "open source" is usually one of three things: cost at volume, data control, or the ability to fine-tune. A hosted id answers none of those, but it answers the immediate one, which is whether the output is good enough for your job. Test that first. Spend a small amount on three or four prompts that match your real work, at a modest resolution, and judge the results before you invest in infrastructure for a model you may not use.
If the output is good and your volume is modest, the hosted route is the shorter path. If you need the weights for compliance or fine-tuning reasons, record that requirement and watch the vendor's blog; do not plan around a rumor.
- Cost at volume: estimate with
pricing_skusfrom the catalog. - Data control: read the vendor's terms for the route you use.
- Fine-tuning: not offered by a hosted catalog id.
How to check for a change
Availability can change after a page is read, so record the date. The facts above are from 2026-10-05. A quick routine is to open the Seed blog post, search for the words weights, download and license, and note what you find with the date. For the hosted route, list the catalog and confirm that seedance-2.5 is still present with the durations and resolutions you expect, since the capability fields are the source of truth for what Sume validates today.
If you need a model you can run on your own hardware, this page cannot help: Sume runs hosted catalog models and does not ship weights. If you only need the model's output, the hosted id is the route that exists today. Check back on the Seed launch post for any change in availability.
