Samsung TV ads specs: Samsung DSP video file rules

Samsung TV (CTV) ads on Samsung DSP are 16:9 MP4, H.264 with AAC or MP3, 5–90 s, up to 50 MB, 5–10 Mbps recommended, 1280×720 or larger.

Samsung TV ads bought through Samsung DSP use a 16:9 MP4 with H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio, 1920 × 1080 recommended. For Connected TV the file must be 50 MB or less (30 MB recommended), 5 to 90 seconds long (15–30 recommended), at a recommended 5–10 Mbps, at least 1280 × 720, with 30 fps recommended.

Samsung's numbers are quoted from the Samsung DSP Help page for video creatives, read on 2026-09-29; Samsung can change them. Sume facts come from the Timeline 1.0 and Video inspect docs and the Sume API reference. Anything called current behavior is read from Sume's code.

What are Samsung DSP's video ad specs?

Samsung publishes one table with a column for desktop, mobile and tablet and one for Connected TV, the column a TV spot follows:

What else does Samsung say about the file?

  • Samsung adds that some publishers or exchange sellers require a file with a bitrate of 15,000 kbps, above the 10 Mbps in the table. Ask before you encode.
  • Changing the creative restarts transcoding and auditing, which takes up to two days, and there is no bidding until that is done. Deliver the final file early.
  • Video ad serving fee tiers depend on your contract and the original size of the uploaded video.
  • The AdChoices icon cannot be added to CTV campaigns.

Can a 90-second Samsung CTV ad fit in 50 MB?

Not at the recommended bitrate floor. At 5 Mbps a file reaches 50 MB after about 80 seconds, so a 90-second spot has room for about 4.4 Mbps on average (our arithmetic, taking 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes). A 30-second spot at the 10 Mbps ceiling is about 37.5 MB, inside the cap. Samsung's recommended 15–30 seconds avoids the conflict.

How do I make a Samsung TV ad with Sume?

Assemble the spot with a Timeline 1.0 render (POST /v1/timeline-1.0/render) from clips already in your workspace on media.sume.com, such as earlier Sume job outputs. The settings that map to Samsung's table:

  • output.width 1920 and output.height 1080. Timeline takes even sizes from 256 to 2160 and defaults to 1080 × 1920 vertical, so set it.
  • output.fps: 30, Samsung's CTV recommendation. Timeline offers 24, 25, 30 and 60.
  • audio.duration_seconds: 15 or 30. It is the output length, so the file lands exactly on a recommended duration.
  • In current code the render writes H.264 (libx264) and AAC audio in an MP4, the codecs Samsung lists. Timeline's rate-card price is $0.10 per output minute, rounded up to whole minutes.

How do I check bitrate and size before I upload?

Today Timeline encodes at a constant quality (-crf 20) with no bitrate target, and refuses codec and crf fields with a 400, so the bitrate follows the footage. Measure the finished MP4 with POST /v1/video-inspect and frames: false, an unbilled probe:

  • size_bytes: 50 MB or less.
  • size_bytes × 8 ÷ duration_seconds is the average bitrate, audio included; hold it against 5–10 Mbps. How to check a video's bitrate shows the math.
  • width, height and fps: 1920, 1080 and 30.
  • If the bitrate falls outside the range, re-encode in your own encoder with a bitrate target. For the other streaming TV sellers, see CTV ad specs.
