Reels profile grid crops to 3:4 (1080x1440): check a frame

A Reel cover is center-cropped to 3:4 on the profile grid, per a third-party guide. Pull the frame with Sume video frames and keep faces and titles inside.

According to Postfa's Reels size guide (third-party, read 2026-10-06), the profile grid shows a Reel's cover center-cropped to 3:4, which is 1080x1440 from a 1080x1920 frame. That is a 1440 of 1920 pixel window, so 240 pixels at the top and bottom are cut. Keep faces and titles inside that band.

How do I check my frame?

Pull the exact cover frame from the rendered MP4 with Sume video frames: POST /v1/video-frames takes at[] timestamps, returns at most 24 frames, and has a source limit of 300 seconds. Then check where the subject sits against the 240-pixel bands. The route always returns 202, so poll the job.

def inside_grid_crop(y_top, y_bottom, h=1920, crop_h=1440):
    margin = (h - crop_h) // 2
    return y_top >= margin and y_bottom <= h - margin

print(inside_grid_crop(300, 900))   # True
print(inside_grid_crop(100, 900)) # False: title touches the cut band

What about the other safe zones?

The same guide lists the in-feed overlay zones: about 14 percent at the top, 35 percent at the bottom and 6 percent each side. The grid crop is a separate constraint, so check both.
