Pinterest Idea ad safe zone 270 top, 440 bottom: place captions

Pinterest's Idea ad safe zone leaves 820 by 1210 pixels on a 1080x1920 video. Work out the caption band, then test Sume's anchor_ratio against a still.

On a 1080x1920 Pinterest Idea ad, the safe zone leaves 820 pixels of width and 1,210 pixels of height, which is 47.9 percent of the frame. Keep burned-in captions between 270 and 1,480 pixels from the top, which is 14.1 to 77.1 percent of the height. Sume's caption placement is a ratio from 0.05 to 0.95, so convert the pixel band to a ratio and test one render.

The numbers on the Pinterest page

Pinterest's Idea ad spec says to put text and other elements within set dimensions so people can see them on any device.

What that leaves on 1080x1920

The arithmetic uses the recommended full-bleed size from the same page.

Safe area on 1080x1920, computed 2026-10-09, as listed below.

  • Safe width: working 1080 - 65 - 195; result 820 px
  • Safe height: working 1920 - 270 - 440; result 1,210 px
  • Safe area share: working 820 x 1210 = 992,200 of 2,073,600; result 47.9%
  • Top limit as a ratio: working 270 / 1920; result 0.141
  • Bottom limit as a ratio: working (1920 - 440) / 1920; result 0.771

Placing the caption line on Sume

Sume's standalone video captions accept design.placement with anchor_ratio and landscape_anchor_ratio, each bounded 0.05 to 0.95. The docs call it the center of the line as a fraction of the frame height but do not state which edge is zero, so render a test and look. Styles named slam, punch and tiktok-green do not support design overrides (Sume docs, read 2026-10-08).

The ratio places the center of the line, so the whole line must fit inside the band. A line that is 100 pixels tall centered at 0.75 reaches 1,440 + 50 = 1,490 pixels from the top, which is past the 1,480 limit. Keep the center at least half a line height inside the edge.

  • Caption job: $0.20 per clip up to 60 seconds.
  • Video frames returns stills at a chosen time; max_edge is 16 to 2160.

Checking the render

Pull a still from the last caption in the clip and measure the text box against 270, 1,480, 65 and 885 pixels (1080 - 195). The still should be the same size as the video, so ask for a max_edge of 1920 for this vertical file. Fix the anchor once, then reuse it.

Other sizes

Pinterest's page gives the margins in pixels and recommends 1080x1920 for full-bleed media. If you render at 720x1280 instead, the same margins no longer mean the same share of the frame, because 270 of 1,280 rows is 21.1 percent, not 14.1 percent. Convert from pixels at the size you actually upload, or render at 1080x1920 so the numbers on the page apply as written.

Work through the arithmetic once per size and write the two ratios in your caption template. Repeating the check for every clip is not needed when the template is fixed.

The page does not say whether text outside the zone is rejected or just may be hidden by the interface, and it does not describe the elements that sit in the margins. Treat the zone as guidance for visibility, and keep the logo and any call to action inside it too.
