Nano Banana MCP server for Claude: how to add one

Yes: you can use Nano Banana in Claude through an MCP server that wraps an image API carrying the model. On Sume's hosted MCP server, the generate_image tool runs google/nano-banana-pro or google/nano-banana-2 once you add https://mcp.sume.com/mcp to Claude Code or another client and turn Write on when you sign in.

The default sign-in is read-only (mcp:read), and paid tools such as generate_image return insufficient_scope until you turn Write on at consent, which adds mcp:write. An API key sent as a header sees the full hosted tool set instead. Ask Claude to call tools_list to confirm the session. Runway's server page says to add its URL as a custom connector in claude.ai, Cursor, or another MCP client and sign in with your Runway account. Higgsfield's Claude Code tab installs the Higgsfield CLI (npm i -g @higgsfield/cli, then higgsfield auth login) rather than adding the MCP URL.

What does a Nano Banana call look like?

Name the model inside payload; without payload.model, generate_image routes to sume/auto instead. The Image API also accepts bare ids such as nano-banana-2 as aliases for the google/ ids. Paid tools require an idempotency_key, which deduplicates retries but is not an approval step, and dry_run: true previews admission and cost without submitting the job:

Send it again with dry_run omitted or false to submit. The agent then polls with jobs_status or jobs_wait, which holds at most 55 seconds per call, and reads jobs_result. On wait_slice_expired, it retries jobs_wait with the same id and never resubmits the paid call.

Can Nano Banana edit my own images over MCP?

Yes, from a URL. In Sume's current catalog code both Nano Banana entries take text-to-image and image edits. References go in input_references and must be public HTTPS URLs; localhost, private-network, and non-HTTPS URLs are rejected before submission. Hosted MCP cannot read files from your laptop, so a photo on your disk needs a public link first.

The Image API returns Sume-hosted, signed URLs rather than inline base64, so download the files you want to keep.

How much does Nano Banana cost over MCP?

On Sume, generate_image is a paid tool billed from the workspace wallet. Image billing is all-or-nothing: a completed generation is billed in full, and a failed or canceled one is not billed. The endpoint pricing lines are the amount charged, Sume's margin included, so cost_usd × n is what you pay; GET /v1/images/models lists them, and API pricing has the rate card.
