MiniMax H3 license: 'Powered by' notice vs required UI display
The MiniMax H3 license only encourages a 'Powered by' notice, but IV.2 requires 'MiniMax H3' on the UI of commercial products. Plus a Sume overlay plate.

Two different clauses. Section III.3.a only encourages a notice that a product is "Powered by MiniMax H3". Section IV.2 says you shall prominently display "MiniMax H3" on the user interface of a commercial product or service that uses MiniMax H3 or its Works. One is optional wording; the other is a requirement in the text.
This quotes the license, read 2026-10-01; it is not legal advice and Sume does not claim any feature satisfies it. The overlay mechanics are from Sume's Timeline compose docs.
What is the difference between III.3 and IV.2?
III.3 sits under "You are encouraged to". IV.2 sits under "Additional Commercial Terms" and uses "shall". The license also grants a license to the "MiniMax H3" mark within the Applicable Territory solely for complying with III.3.
| Clause | Wording | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| III.3.a | "Powered by MiniMax H3" notice on a product or service | Encouraged |
| IV.2 | Prominently display "MiniMax H3" on the user interface of commercial products | Required |
| VI.2 | Mark license solely for complying with III.3 | Limit on use of the mark |
Does a label on a video count as the user interface?
The license does not define "user interface", so this post cannot say. Whether a plate inside a rendered clip, a label in your app, or both is right is a question for MiniMax and your counsel.
How do I add a visible plate to a rendered clip on Sume?
Timeline compose takes one still and one video and returns one MP4 with both on screen. With operation: "overlay", layout.position is top, center or bottom, width_ratio is 0.05 to 1 of width, and margin_ratio is 0 to 0.45 of height. Both URLs must already be this workspace's media.sume.com files.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/timeline-1.0/compose \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: h3-plate-001" \
-d '{
"operation": "overlay",
"image": { "url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/plate.png" },
"video": { "url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/clip.mp4" },
"layout": { "position": "bottom", "width_ratio": 0.3, "margin_ratio": 0.05 }
}'Where is related labelling covered?
A different rule, an EU icon on AI video, is covered in the EU AI icon post. It uses the same compose route and has nothing to do with this license.
