What does Meta offer for Reels ad music?

Meta's Reels ads page describes a Sound Collection, a free royalty-free audio library for ads. It also says Advantage+ Creative can pick music from that library for you, or you can choose up to five songs yourself. I read the page on 2026-10-03. The page does not say anything beyond that about licence terms, so read Meta's own terms before assuming any right outside ads.

When would I generate music instead?

The library is the obvious first choice for a Meta-only ad. Generated music helps when a track must live outside Meta: a site, another network, or an organic post. A generated track is one file you can place in any channel's edit, while a library track follows the library's own rules; check Sume's terms for the licence you need.

How does Sume Music work?

POST /v1/music-1.0/generate (or /v1/music-router/generate) is listed at $0.125 per generation. The prompt can be up to 5000 characters. There is no duration parameter, negative_prompt is rejected, and the result is an audio/mpeg artifact on media.sume.com. Because there is no duration control, trim or fit the track to the clip afterwards.

Mix it under a clip with Sume's timeline: the soundtrack object takes duck_db between 0 and 20 and a gain_db, so speech stays above the music. Timeline render is $0.10 per output minute.

  • Describe the mood and tempo in the prompt, not a named song.
  • Pick a track length at least as long as the clip.
  • Set duck_db so voice is clear.

How do I decide?

Count where the ad will run. One placement on Meta: use the library and save the cost. Multiple placements or channels: generate once and reuse. Either way, listen to the final mix on a phone speaker, because that is where most Reels are heard.
