POST /v1/media-imports accepts public TikTok and Instagram video URLs and rejects YouTube and every other host with a 422 unsupported_platform error. If the video is yours, upload the file to Sume instead and use the resulting media.sume.com URL.

What the endpoint does

An import fetches the public video, mirrors the bytes to media.sume.com and records a workspace asset, for $0.15 per accepted import. The mirrored URL then works as an input to generators, trim, captions and the timeline.

Request shape

The body is the URL and a mode. A rejected request is not an accepted import, so the $0.15 estimate applies only to accepted ones.

Retries of an accepted import should reuse the Idempotency-Key.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/media-imports \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: import-reel-001" \
  -d '{"url":"https://www.instagram.com/reel/EXAMPLE/","mode":"async"}'

For a long YouTube video

Sume does not download from YouTube. Use the original file from your own recording, upload it, and split it before trimming: trim accepts a source up to 1,800 seconds. Only repurpose video you hold the rights to.
