MCP Skills extension (SEP-2640): what Sume's hosted MCP exposes

SEP-2640 serves Agent Skills as skill:// MCP resources. Sume's hosted MCP declares tools only, so skills/list is not a Sume surface; here is what to use.

No, Sume's hosted MCP server does not serve skills over MCP today. SEP-2640 defines a Skills extension where each file of an Agent Skill is an MCP resource under skill://, enumerated by skills/list. The initialize result in the Sume MCP server source on main declares a tools capability with listChanged: false and nothing else, so a client that looks for skill resources will find tools only.

The vendor facts come from the SEP-2640 page (read 2026-10-07): status Final, type Extensions Track, created 2026-04-23. The Sume facts come from the MCP overview and the server source.

Extension against server

The table compares what the extension asks of a server with what Sume ships.

Where the guidance lives instead

Because skills are not served as resources, an agent learns how to use Sume from three places: the server instructions returned at connect time, the tool descriptions in tools_list, and tools_schema for one tool's contract. The discovery tools are read-only, so a mcp:read session can use all of them.

If you want skills today

If your agent can run shell commands, install Sume's guidance as a local skill in the agent's own skills folder. If it cannot, hosted MCP plus the server instructions is the route.

What to expect from clients

The extension is Final, so clients may begin to ask servers for skills. When a host tries skills/list on Sume and gets nothing back, that is expected rather than a failure. Check mcp_health and tools_list to confirm the session itself is healthy.
