Break-even
Pro monthly pays back against Sume at 120 one-minute captions a month ($24 divided by $0.20). Below that, pay-per-job is cheaper; above it, the subscription is. At annual pricing the break-even drops to 80 captions.
- 10 videos a month: Sume $2.00, Kapwing Pro $24 or $16.
- 100 videos of 60 seconds: Sume $20.00, still below Pro.
- 500 videos of 60 seconds: Sume $100, Kapwing Pro uses 500 of 1,000 minutes for $24.
What the price buys
Sume's caption job is one API call that returns a captioned video with no editor session, which is the reason to pay more per minute. Kapwing includes a browser editor and a team workspace.
A simple monthly model
Take a channel that publishes 40 videos a month, 45 seconds each. Sume captions cost 40 times $0.20, or $8.00. Kapwing Pro at $24 monthly uses 30 of its 1,000 subtitle minutes. For that channel, the cheapest plan is the pay-per-job route by $16 a month, or by $8 against the annual price.
At 120 videos a month the two cost the same on monthly Pro. If the channel also needs the browser editor, count the editor seat in the Kapwing cost and the API call in the Sume cost before you decide.
Limits
Kapwing's page also meters credits for other tools, which are not counted here. The tables show the model amount. A workspace Agent Fee line can be added on top, so treat the job's own usage cost as the truth and check the live catalog before you budget; limits and rows change.
