Edits 15-minute export vs Sume's 900-second trim and detach cap

Edits now exports up to 15 minutes on iOS. Sume trim and audio detach also top out at 900 seconds of output, from a source up to 1800 seconds.

Fifteen minutes is 900 seconds, which happens to match the ceiling on one Sume video-trim or audio-detach output. The two limits are unrelated systems: Edits caps what the app exports, while Sume caps what one media job returns, and a longer cut has to be split into pieces of at most 900 s.

Edits is from Instagram's creators blog; limits are from Video trim and Audio detach, read 2026-10-01.

What changed in Edits?

Instagram says you can now export videos up to 15 minutes from Edits, and that this is currently available on iOS. The post gives no other limits.

What are the Sume caps?

Caps from the Sume docs, read 2026-10-01: https://docs.sume.com/models/video-trim
ToolSourceOutputOver the cap
video-trimat most 1800 sat most 900 svideo_trim_range_empty when the range is longer than 900 s
audio-detachat most 1800 sat most 900 sA whole track past 900 s needs a range

How do I split a longer cut?

Make one request per piece. For a 25-minute source, trim start: 0, duration: 900 and then start: 900, duration: 600. duration accepts 0.2 to 900 and you send exactly one of end or duration. For audio, call detach twice with a range on each. Keep the default precision: "exact" if you need frame-accurate boundaries; keyframe can start a GOP early, so re-base against actual_start_seconds. See trim without re-encoding.

What if the source is over 1800 seconds?

The worker refuses it with source_duration_exceeded. The docs list no way around that within these tools, so the source itself has to be shorter before you import it.
