Graph API v26.0 was released on July 29, 2026, and its release notes list no Reels, video or content-publishing changes. Two things do change: the Instagram Explore feed ad placement is no longer available from v26.0, and five legacy Page fields now return version errors. If your pipeline only publishes Reels and Facebook Reels video, upgrading the version in your URL is low-risk by the notes, but verify with a test post.

What v26.0 does list

  • Instagram: the Explore feed placement is no longer available; Meta says delivery shifts to other eligible placements, and requests that name Explore explicitly return an error.
  • Pages: current_location, genre, network, parking and start_info are deprecated for the New Pages Experience and return version errors on v26.0 and later. No replacements are named.

Upgrade checklist for a video pipeline

Treat the version as configuration, then test the three calls that matter for short video: container or upload start, upload, publish. A request builder that takes the version from one constant keeps the change to a single line.

import os

GRAPH_VERSION = os.environ.get("GRAPH_VERSION", "v26.0")
BASE = f"https://graph.facebook.com/{GRAPH_VERSION}"

def url(path):
    return f"{BASE}/{path.lstrip('/')}"

print(url("/me/video_reels"))

Keeping media stable while you upgrade

Hold the files constant so a failure points at the API and not the video. If you generate or cut the clips with Sume, store the finished MP4 URL from the job result, for instance from video trim, and replay the same file against v25.0 and v26.0. A job id is durable, so you do not need to resubmit the paid request to repeat the test.

Why pin a version at all

Meta lists an availability window for each version, so an old pin keeps working for a long time, but a pin you never revisit eventually becomes a migration emergency. v25.0 stays available until July 29, 2028, two years to the day after v26.0 shipped. A quarterly calendar reminder to read the changelog costs less than a forced upgrade, and a single constant makes the bump a one-line pull request.

Limits

We read the top-level changelog and the v26.0 page. The Instagram Platform has its own changelog, and Meta says versioned changes usually reach the newest version first with broader rollout later, so a feature can behave differently by app. This post does not claim anything about rate limits or permissions.
