Image edit reference limits on Sume: 16 on GPT Image 2.5, 10 elsewhere
ChatGPT Image 2.5 takes up to 16 input_references; most edit rows take 10, Ideogram 4.5 takes 5. Imagen, Recraft and Qwen Image Max take none.

Up to 16 reference images on openai/gpt-image-2.5 and its Sunburst variant, 10 on the other edit-capable rows, 5 on ideogram/ideogram-v4.5, and zero on text-only rows. The cap is a catalog value, and a request above it returns 400. Reference URLs must be public HTTPS; Sume rejects localhost, private and non-HTTP URLs before submission.
Per model
From the repo's docs/api/images.md, the public Image API docs and the catalog capability data.
| Sume model id | Max references | Edit |
|---|---|---|
| openai/gpt-image-2.5 (+ sunburst) | 16 | Yes, plus mask_url |
| google/nano-banana-2.1, pro | 10 | Yes |
| bytedance-seed/seedream-5-lite | 10 | Yes |
| black-forest-labs/flux.2-pro, flex | 10 | Yes |
| qwen/qwen-image | 10 | Yes |
| ideogram/ideogram-v4.5 | 5 (first is the source) | Yes |
| qwen/qwen-image-layered | Exactly 1 | Layers, not an edit |
| google/imagen-4-fast, ultra; recraft/recraft-v4; qwen/qwen-image-max | 0 | Text only |
Request shape
Each reference is an object, and the first one is the picture to edit on rows that treat it that way (Ideogram 4.5 does). On edit calls use aspect_ratio: "auto" to match the reference; omitting the field is not the same.

On edit calls, aspect_ratio auto matches the reference; leaving the field out is not the same thing. Ideogram 4.5 keeps the source shape when you omit it.
