Gemini Omni video editing: the EEA, UK and under-10-second rules
Google says editing or extending uploaded videos with Omni is unavailable in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, and uploads must be under 10 seconds.

Google's Omni page says editing or extending uploaded videos is unavailable in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and that uploaded input videos must be under 10 seconds. Editing a video the model generated itself, over multiple turns, remains supported everywhere.
Those are Google's rules as written on its Omni page, read 2026-09-30. Sume's edit route is described in the Video Router docs; that page documents no region field, so check your own situation rather than reading anything into its silence.
What exactly does Google restrict?
Two separate things. Uploaded videos used for editing or extending are unavailable in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. And uploaded input videos must be under 10 seconds. The page also describes extension as appending 3 to 10 seconds to existing clips, up to 40 seconds total for multi-turn extension.
What does Sume's edit request take?
In the Video Router catalog, gemini-omni-flash-1.1 handles an edit when you send video_url. The docs say video_url is the edit source, not a reference, and cannot be combined with image_url, end_image_url or reference_*_urls.
| Field | Edit request |
|---|---|
prompt | Describes the edit |
video_url | The edit source |
resolution | Optional, default 720p |
aspect_ratio | Rejected |
duration | Not sent; if given, only a reserve-estimate hint |
Do the reference-clip limits apply to edits?
No, they are a different input. Reference clips (reference_video_urls) are capped at 3 clips of 3 seconds each, and are not the edit source. Prompting for edits is covered in Gemini Omni video edit prompts.
What should I check before building an edit feature?
Read Google's page for the current region and length rules, keep input clips under 10 seconds, and treat the regional line as a product constraint for users in the listed areas. This is not legal advice. For anything unclear, ask Google or your own counsel.
