Gemini Live Avatar: 97 languages and SynthID, explained
Google says Gemini 3.8 Live Avatar covers 97 languages and adds SynthID to audio and video. What each claim covers, and what it says about other avatar tools.
Google's Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar announcement, dated 2026-09-24, makes three claims: it works in 97 languages, it carries a SynthID watermark on audio and video, and it is available in Gemini Enterprise. Those are Google's facts about Google's product. They do not tell you anything about how another avatar tool watermarks or which languages it speaks.
This post reports what the page says and stops there. Sume's avatar video docs make no SynthID statement, so nothing below claims that a Sume clip carries one.
What did Google announce about languages and SynthID?
| Topic | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Availability | Available in Gemini Enterprise (2026-09-24) |
| Languages | 97 languages |
| Watermark | SynthID on audio and video |
| Custom avatars | From a high-quality reference image, only via enterprise allowlisting |
| Price | None listed |
What does SynthID on both audio and video mean?
The page says the watermark is applied to audio and to video, not to one of them. That is the whole claim in the source: it does not describe how the mark is read, how well it survives edits, or whether other tools can detect it.
For how SynthID behaves on Gemini video and image outputs that pass through Sume, see Gemini Omni video watermark and SynthID. It is a separate product with its own page.
Does 97 languages apply to Sume avatar video?
No. The 97-language figure belongs to Google's live dialogue model. The Generate avatar video page lists no spoken-language count; it does document a caption language hint (for example auto) and Hangul caption styles for Korean speech.
If a specific language matters, test a short script in that language before you plan a campaign around it.
What should I check before relying on the claims?
- Which plan or product tier includes Live Avatar: the page says Gemini Enterprise, and lists no price.
- Whether your language is inside the 97, and how good the lip-sync is in it. A count is not a quality statement.
- Who can create a custom avatar: the page ties reference-image avatars to enterprise allowlisting.
- What a watermark does and does not promise. The page states that it exists, not how detection works.
- Re-read Google's page on the day you decide; the announcement is dated 2026-09-24 and product pages change.
Do I need to disclose a realistic avatar on YouTube?
YouTube's help page says disclosure is needed for realistic content that makes a real person appear to say or do something they did not, or that generates a realistic scene that did not occur. It lists unrealistic or fantastical scenarios as not needing disclosure.
That rule is about what your video shows, not about whether a watermark exists. Read YouTube's page before you publish an avatar that looks like a real person.
