Gemini API Tier 2 needs $100 paid and 3 days: plan the Omni launch
Moving from Tier 1 to Tier 2 on the Gemini API takes $100 paid plus three days, and Tier 3 takes $1,000 and 30 days. Count the days before an Omni launch.

Google's Gemini API tiers are earned over time. Tier 2 needs $100 of total paid spend and at least three days since the first payment; Tier 3 needs $1,000 and 30 days. Limits rise with each: $10, $50 and $200 per rolling 10 minutes, and monthly caps of $250, $2,000 and $20,000 or more. If an Omni launch needs more than 10 ten-second clips in 10 minutes, start the clock now, because the days cannot be bought.
The ladder
The billing page lists the qualification and monthly caps and says upgrades "usually reflect within 10 minutes" once criteria are met. The rate limits page gives the spend per 10 minutes. The pricing page puts Omni at about $0.10 per second at 720p, which sets the clips column.
| Tier | To qualify | Spend per 10 minutes | Clips per window | Monthly cap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Linked billing account | $10 | 10 | $250 |
| Tier 2 | $100 paid, 3 days | $50 | 50 | $2,000 |
| Tier 3 | $1,000 paid, 30 days | $200 | 200 | $20,000+ |
The catch for a deadline
The $100 you pay to qualify has to be spent on the API, so reaching Tier 2 means producing about 100 clips of footage, not just waiting. A campaign that starts rendering on launch week is stuck at the Tier 1 window. Plan to run real, useful generations in the days before, such as drafts you will keep.
Tier 3 at 30 days means a full month of lead time. Nothing on the pages offers a way to request the limit sooner, so ask Google's sales team if you cannot wait.
A prepaid alternative
Sume sets limits by plan and balance, not by account age. Per Generation admission, concurrency is Free 1, Pro 4, Startup 8, Scale 20, and a submit reserves the estimate against your balance, failing with 402 insufficient_credits if it cannot. See Errors and credits. You pay list times 1.25, so you buy the lack of a waiting period; whether that is worth 25 percent depends on how soon you ship.
