What this means for a developer

If you build today, use the Gemini API with the model ids gemini-3.8-flash-tts or gemini-3.8-flash-lite-tts. If your company requires the Enterprise route for data terms, wait for it or ask your Google contact for dates, because the page gives none.

The pricing page lists a free tier and a paid tier. Paid audio output is $9.00 per million tokens for Flash TTS through December 31, 2026 and $18.00 after, so plan the budget for January now.

What the model brings

Google lists over 100 languages, more than 2,000 production-ready voices, voice design from a text prompt, voice replication from a 30-second sample with consent verification, two-speaker scenes and SynthID watermarking on all audio. The speech docs mention more than 130 languages for Flash TTS and more than 100 for Flash-Lite, so check which number applies to the model you pick.

When a file pipeline is the better fit

Gemini's API returns audio you then have to place in a video. If you want narration, music, captions and render in one tracked chain, Sume's jobs return durable media URLs, and tts_create gives word timings and sentence slices for a timeline. Sume lists text to speech at $0.0475 per 1,000 characters; confirm the live figure in GET /v1/catalog.
