Format showcase field: judge a Format by a real output first
GET /v1/formats returns showcase, a verified sample output. Use it with description and io to pick a Sume Format before you spend credits on a run.

Before you pay for a Format run, read its showcase. It is a real output the Format produced when it was registered, checked against the generated-media ledger before Sume stores it. It is evidence of what the Format makes, not a picture someone attached. Read it together with description and io and you can usually pick the right Format without a test run.
What showcase contains
The catalog docs show the shape. A video showcase carries the kind, a media URL, a thumbnail and a timestamp.
| Field | Tells you | Can be null |
|---|---|---|
| description | What the Format is for | No |
| io.input_kind | url, text, image or product | Yes, on older Formats |
| io.output_kind | video, image or text | Yes, on older Formats |
| showcase.media_url | A real sample output | Yes, on older Formats |
| showcase.created_at | When the sample was made | Yes, on older Formats |
A three-minute selection routine
Do this for each candidate slug before you write integration code.
- Call
GET /v1/formats/sume/{slug}and read the description. - Check
io. If it does not match the input you hold (a product URL, a single image, plain text), move on. - Open
showcase.media_urland watch it. Judge the look, pacing and length, not just the idea. - Compare
created_atwith the Format's current version. A sample made earlier may not match the latest edits.
What showcase does not promise
A showcase shows one good output. It does not guarantee that your product, your photo or your language will give the same result. Treat it as the best case. Run one real input before you commit, and set a per-run spend cap so a bad guess is cheap.
If the showcase and io are both null, the Format was saved before registration existed. That means not declared. Read the description and the call sheet at docs.sume.com/formats/{handle}/{slug} instead.
Cap the first test run
Send generation_spend_cap_usd on the first run. A Format that never set a cap inherits a high default, which the docs give as $400, so name your own lower number for a trial. If the wallet cannot fund a run, the create fails with 402 insufficient_credits and nothing runs (Errors and spend).
