A Format run that makes 25 Nano Banana 2.1 images costs $2.50 at 1K, $3.75 at 2K and $5.00 at 4K in image generation, so a generation_spend_cap_usd of 6 covers the 4K case. Without a cap on the request, the run inherits the Format's own cap, and null raises it to the $500 platform maximum.

Image totals for 25 outputs

Image prices are flat per image.

1K$0.10$2.503
2K$0.15$3.754.5
4K$0.20$5.006

The run body

A Format body needs at least one of instruction, input, previous_run_id or attachments. Always send an Idempotency-Key.

curl -sS -X POST "https://api.sume.com/v1/formats/$HANDLE/$SLUG/runs" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen)" \
  -d '{"instruction": "Make 25 images at 2K.", "generation_spend_cap_usd": 4.5}'

Limits and gotchas

A cap above the Format's own cap is honored, not clamped, so the request value wins in both directions. That is the opposite of a scheduled run, where a caller can only lower the cap.

  • 0 is a 400 and null means $500.
  • A Format's own default is $400.
  • The usage field billable_amount_usd_micros excludes the orchestrator turn; debited_usd_micros is the wallet cost.
