Event recap video from phone clips: trim, join, add music

Make a 45-second recap from phone footage: trim each clip at $0.02, join with fades in one Timeline render at $0.10, and add a $0.125 music bed.

An event recap needs three decisions: which clips, how long each, and what music. Trim six clips at $0.02, generate a music bed for $0.125, and render once with Timeline 1.0 at $0.10: $0.345 for a 45-second recap. Phone footage is usually vertical, so keep the default 1080x1920 output.

Steps

Upload the phone clips so they have media.sume.com URLs (POST /v1/assets/upload-url, PUT the bytes, then POST /v1/assets/{id}/complete). Trim each to 5-8 seconds; use precision: "keyframe" unless a cut must land on a beat. Put the strongest clip first and last. Declare the length with audio.duration_seconds and add the music as soundtrack with a negative gain_db and a fade-out. To keep the event's own sound as well, detach each trimmed clip's audio or keep it as the spine; with a silent spine (audio.mode: "silence") the music bed is the only sound.

Per-clip settings in Timeline 1.0, from docs.sume.com/models/timeline, read 2026-10-01.

Limits

A recap does not fix shaky footage, and Sume does not detect faces to avoid. Music Router gives you a generated bed, not licensed pop songs, so a crowd cheering to a famous track needs its own licence. Landscape clips in a vertical render are cropped unless you pick blur.
