Place the EU AI icon where app UI and captions will not cover it

Put the icon where nothing else will sit on top of it. The EU icon page says that on video the icon should be placed so no overlay obstructs it. App buttons, captions and your own text are all overlays. TikTok publishes downloadable safe-zone files for in-feed ads, so use those for TikTok. For Instagram Reels, no official zone numbers were read for this post, so none are given here.

Move the icon with compose layout

In Timeline compose overlay mode, layout.position is top, center or bottom, width_ratio is 0.05-1 of width, and margin_ratio is 0-0.45 of height. Those are the only placement controls the docs list for overlay, so you cannot pin an exact pixel corner. Pick the position, then compare against the TikTok safe-zone file by rendering a test and extracting a frame.

Burned-in captions compete for the same space. Video captions has a design.placement.anchor_ratio (center of the line as a fraction of frame height) for the styles that support design. punch and tiktok-green do not support design. Move captions away from the icon, or the icon away from captions.

A test routine

  • Download the TikTok safe-zone file and the EU icon; decide a position.
  • Render the overlay, then caption it, or caption first and overlay second, and check both orders in a test.
  • Extract stills at 0 s and at a caption-heavy moment with video-frames, and look for overlap.
  • Check the icon is there from the first frame.
  • Repeat for each aspect ratio you ship.

Caveat

The EU page asks for visibility, not a particular corner or size, and gives no pixel rules. Treat your placement as a design choice that you can defend by showing the test frames.
