Edits carousels: four matching images per call

Instagram Edits now supports carousels, per secondary reports. Sume image models with an n range of 1-4 return up to four matching images per request.

To make a matching set of carousel slides, send one request with n: 4 to a Sume image model whose n range allows it. Secondary reports, such as this write-up, say Instagram's Edits app now lets you build carousels; slide counts and specs are not confirmed here, so check Instagram's own help pages before you plan slide numbers.

What Sume documents

The Image API takes up to 10 images per call with n, but per-model ceilings are lower, and the catalog descriptor tells you the real number. The documented Seedream 4.5 example lists n with a range of 1 to 4 and input_references from 0 to 10. A request that sets a parameter the model does not list is rejected with 400 unsupported_parameter.

A four-slide request

Use a 4:5 ratio for portrait feed images. The docs note that 4:5 is Instagram portrait (1080x1350), not 4:3, and that exact 1080x1350 is a post-step through job target_pixels on some models.

curl -X POST "https://api.sume.com/v1/images" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "bytedance-seed/seedream-4.5",
    "prompt": "Four slides in one flat illustration style: a coffee bag, a grinder, a pour-over, a finished cup",
    "aspect_ratio": "4:5",
    "n": 4
  }'

Keeping the set consistent

  • One request with n: 4 shares a prompt and style, which keeps slides closer than four separate requests.
  • Use input_references for a logo or product photo that every slide should respect, within the model's reference range.
  • Read supported_parameters from GET /v1/images/models first; pin only what the descriptor lists.
  • Check the status code: 200 is the image response and 202 is the job envelope, which slow configurations can degrade to.

Limits worth knowing

POST /v1/images blocks for up to 30 seconds. If generation is still running, you get 202 and the standard job envelope, then poll GET /v1/jobs/{id}/status and fetch the result. Each image returns as a Sume-hosted URL and usage.cost reports the USD billed for the request.
