Does TikTok allow AI-generated content? Yes, with a label

Yes, TikTok allows AI-generated content, but it requires you to label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio or video. You can use TikTok's AI-generated label or another disclosure such as a sticker or caption, and when an app posts for you through TikTok's Content Posting API, is_aigc: true adds the "Creator labeled as AI-generated" tag.

What AI content does TikTok require you to label?

TikTok's synthetic media policy, part of its Community Guidelines, requires people to label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio or video. TikTok's label can go on any content that has been completely generated or significantly edited by AI, and TikTok says creators can also disclose with a sticker or caption.

A label doesn't make everything allowed. TikTok says its policies prohibit harmfully misleading AI-generated content, whether it's labeled or not.

Can TikTok label my video as AI-generated automatically?

Sometimes. TikTok labels content made with its own AI effects. In May 2024 it began reading Content Credentials, a C2PA technology that attaches metadata to content, to auto-label AI-generated images and videos uploaded from some other platforms. TikTok said that auto-labeling may be gradual, because it needs that metadata to identify the content.

Sume's docs don't say whether its files carry Content Credentials, so don't count on an automatic label for a Sume video. Label it yourself.

How do I label AI content when posting through the API?

In TikTok's Content Posting API, POST /v2/post/publish/video/init/ takes post_info and source_info. Set is_aigc in post_info:

Which Sume videos should carry the label?

Sume's Terms say generated outputs are synthetic and should not be treated as a factual record of real people or events. They also require permission to use any person's likeness or voice you submit, and forbid using Sume to mislead people about the authenticity of generated media.

Sume outputs built around a realistic person include avatar talking videos made from a script, and avatars created from a reference image. For an automated post, poll the job until it is completed, read the public media.sume.com video artifact from GET /v1/jobs/{id}/result, download it, and send the bytes with FILE_UPLOAD and is_aigc: true.
