Claude Code 2.1.290 claude -p skips resources/list: Sume is tools-only

Claude Code 2.1.290 no longer holds the first claude -p turn for HTTP MCP servers to answer resources/list. Sume declares tools only, so nothing is lost.

Claude Code 2.1.290 starts a claude -p or SDK session faster against Sume, and loses nothing, because Sume's hosted MCP server declares only the tools capability. The changelog for October 5, 2026 says the first turn no longer waits for HTTP and SSE MCP servers to answer resources/list. Sume has no resources to list.

What changed

The Claude Code line comes from the Claude Code changelog (read 2026-10-07). The Sume server source on main declares tools with listChanged: false, and the MCP overview describes the server as tools.

What a headless session needs

The table compares what a headless session needs from Sume with what Sume provides.

Credentials for `claude -p`

For CI and scripts, use an API key in a header. Keep it in the environment of the job and reference it in the MCP config, as the quickstart shows, and do not write the literal key into a committed file. A key sends one header: Bearer or x-api-key, never both.

Speed is only the start

A faster first turn does not make a job faster. Video jobs are durable on Sume's side, and jobs_wait holds at most 55 seconds per call. In a scripted run, plan for several waits and store the job ids so that a restart can pick the work back up.
