Change one lyric in an AI song without regenerating it

You can change one lyric in an existing AI song only in a tool that has an edit function. Suno's v6 announcement says its models can update a single lyric while leaving the rest intact. Sume's music API has no edit function: you change the line in your prompt and generate a new track, which is a new take, not a patched copy.

What does Suno say v6 can edit?

The post is dated Sep 9, 2026. Among the things it says creators can now do, two are edits to a finished song.

Can Sume change one line of a song I already made?

No. As of the docs read on the date above, Sume lists music generation, not music editing. The request takes a prompt and an optional image_url, with no field that points at an earlier track. The Music 1.0 page also says the request has no seed, temperature, guidance or duration parameter, so there is no knob that repeats an earlier result.

What the docs do give you is the model's own account of what it sang: result.lyrics carries the model-reported lyrics or section map when present. The Music 1.0 page calls it model-reported metadata, not an audio measurement, so listen to the track before you trust it.

How do I fix a lyric by generating again?

Keep the whole brief in your own file, change the one line, and send the full prompt again. Music runs on Lyria 3.5, and the docs say the prompt steers the song, so treat the result as a new song that follows the same brief.

• Send a new Idempotency-Key. The docs say to reuse a key only for the same operation and payload, and a changed body under an old key answers 409 idempotency_conflict.
• Keep the prompt within 1 to 5000 characters.
• Do not send duration or duration_seconds; they are rejected. Put the length in the prompt, such as a 1-minute track.
• Compare the takes by ear. Nothing in the docs promises that the music around the changed line stays the same.

What does each new take cost?

API pricing lists music at $0.125 per audio, plus a 5.5% agent fee by default. Every re-generation is billed like the first one, so ten lyric tries are ten generations.

What are the limits of this workaround?

What if I only need to fix a spoken line?

For narration, not singing, redo the one line: text to speech is priced per 1,000 characters, so a single sentence is cheap to repeat, and the finished file can be joined again from its parts. That does not apply to a sung line inside a finished music track.
