Poll sticker on a Short made outside YouTube: what works
Poll and Quiz stickers are YouTube app features, and a poll drawn into the video is just pixels. What the help page says, and what Sume can burn in.

A poll sticker is a YouTube app feature you add after recording or editing in YouTube's Shorts tools, and viewers vote on it inside YouTube. A poll you draw into a video file elsewhere is only a picture, so nobody can tap it. If the Short is made outside YouTube, add the sticker in the YouTube app after you bring the video in, and use Sume to burn in plain captions.
The sticker rules are from Enhance your Shorts and Create YouTube Shorts, both read on 2026-10-02. Whether the in-app route fits an uploaded video is not spelled out on those pages, so test it on your own account.
What stickers does YouTube list?
The Enhance your Shorts page lists stickers for Q&A, Add yours, Poll, Quiz, AI-generated stickers and Images, plus a Shopping sticker for eligible creators. It also lists text with color, style and alignment, voiceover, text-to-speech and a timeline editor for video, text, stickers, music and voiceover.
Which Shorts cannot have an interactive sticker?
Two limits are on the page. The Poll sticker cannot be applied to unlisted or private Shorts. The Quiz sticker is non-interactive on Made for Kids or unlisted or private Shorts, and individual responses stay anonymous. Quiz questions are limited to 3 lines and answers to 2 lines each.
So the visibility you choose changes what the sticker does. A private draft is a poor place to judge whether a poll works.
| Sticker | Limit |
|---|---|
| Poll | Cannot apply to unlisted or private Shorts |
| Quiz | Non-interactive on Made for Kids or unlisted or private Shorts |
| Quiz text | Question up to 3 lines, answers up to 2 lines each |
| Shopping | Eligible creators only |
Can an editing tool outside YouTube make a working poll?
Not by drawing it. A rendered poll in the video file is not connected to YouTube's vote counts. Sume's Video captions burn text into pixels in the same way, so a captioned question like "A or B? Tell us in the comments" works, while a tappable poll does not. Sume does not create YouTube stickers and has no hook into the YouTube app.
If you want a real poll, finish the video elsewhere, bring it into YouTube's tools, and add the sticker there, or run the poll as a pinned comment.
How should you plan the layout?
Leave room. YouTube's own stickers sit on top of the video, so keep the lower and side areas of the frame free of burned-in text. Our post on Shorts safe zones and caption anchors shows how to place captions so the sticker does not cover them.
Burn-in captions are also the right choice when automatic captions are missing, as in this post.
