Can Cursor or Claude schedule Sume video runs over MCP?

Sume schedules are not exposed over MCP or the CLI, and the API cannot create them. Build one in the dashboard, then start runs by API, or use your own cron.

Not directly. Sume's docs state that schedules are not exposed over MCP or the CLI, and that the Developer API can list, read, start and monitor schedule runs but cannot create or edit them. Create the schedule in the Agents dashboard, or ask the Agent in chat to set one up, then have your client or service start runs by API. If you would rather keep the clock in your own scheduler, call a Format run on each tick.

Rules that surprise people

The trigger type, cron or api, is chosen at create time and cannot change. A cron schedule runs on a 5-field expression in an IANA timezone and can also enable API runs. A schedule without an explicit cap gets a $1.00 default, and a per-run override can lower the cap but never raise it, unlike a Format run. Overlap defaults to skip, so a tick that arrives while a run is active is recorded as skipped with previous_run_active.

Fire a run with a tick-based key

Derive the idempotency key from the tick, not from the moment of calling. A retry of the same tick then returns the original run instead of starting a second one.

import datetime

def tick_key(day: datetime.date) -> str:
    iso = day.isocalendar()
    return f"weekly-teaser-{iso.year}-W{iso.week:02d}"

print(tick_key(datetime.date(2026, 10, 5)))
# curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/actions/$ACTION_ID/runs \
#   -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" -H "Idempotency-Key: weekly-teaser-2026-W41" \
#   -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{}'

Pick the clock

  • The clock lives in Sume: a cron schedule you author in the dashboard.
  • The clock lives in your scheduler: a Format run per tick, which also lets you pass input and a schema per call.
  • Team-owned schedules are not reachable over the public API yet.
