C2PA 2.3 file types: OGG, AVI and text, and the files Sume returns

C2PA 2.3 newly names text, OGG Vorbis, large AVI and EXIF originals. Sume returns MP4, WAV and MP3, so check your format before promising credentials.

The C2PA 2.3 announcement says manifests are newly available for plain text documents, OGG Vorbis audio, large AVI video files and EXIF Original Preservation Images (C2PA, read 2026-10-02). Sume's docs describe outputs such as MP4 video and WAV or MP3 audio, which are not among the newly named formats, so check your own file type before promising credentials.

Newly named formats versus Sume outputs

The post lists what is new in 2.3; it does not say which formats were already supported earlier, so absence from the list is not proof of no support. The table lines up the new names against the file types Sume's docs describe.

Newly named in C2PA 2.3 versus documented Sume outputs (read 2026-10-02)
FormatNamed as new in 2.3Documented Sume output
Plain textYesNot a media output
OGG Vorbis audioYesNo, audio detach returns WAV or MP3
Large AVI videoYesNo, video trim and Timeline return MP4
EXIF Original Preservation ImageYesNo

What Sume's docs say about the files

Audio detach returns sample-exact WAV by default or a 128 kbps MP3. Video trim defaults to a frame-accurate libx264 re-encode into a new MP4. Neither page mentions Content Credentials, so a manifest on the source is not something Sume's docs promise to carry across.

A quick check before you promise credentials

  • Name the exact container and codec of the file you will deliver.
  • Look up that format in the C2PA specification, not only in the announcement.
  • Run a verifier on the delivered file and keep the result with the job id.
  • If you need a format the standard names but your pipeline does not produce, say so instead of converting silently.

Honest limit

This is a reading of a release post, and the C2PA specification is the authority on format support. Sume does not claim to write manifests for any of these files.
