Avatar video aspect ratios: 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 or 16:9 for ads?
Sume avatar videos render in 1:1, 3:4, 9:16, 4:3 or 16:9 at 720p. Which ratio to pick for feed, story and listing placements, and what the default is.
Pick 9:16 for full-screen vertical placements, which is also Sume's default, and 1:1 or 4:3 only when a placement asks for them. Sume avatar videos accept 1:1, 3:4, 9:16, 4:3 and 16:9, and render at 720p. Check each placement's own spec before you choose; this post covers only what Sume supports.
Ratios Sume accepts
The field is aspect_ratio on POST /v1/avatar-1.0/talking-video. See Generate avatar video.
| `aspect_ratio` | Orientation | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 9:16 | Vertical | Default |
| 3:4 | Vertical | Less tall than 9:16 |
| 1:1 | Square | |
| 4:3 | Landscape | |
| 16:9 | Landscape |
One render per ratio
The ratio is part of the request, so a cutdown for each placement is a separate job. If you already have a finished video and need another shape, the Timeline video[].fit setting offers cover (default), contain, stretch and blur when you compose clips, per Timeline.
Test the ratio like a hook
Treat ratio as one variable. Keep avatar, script and quality identical across ratios so any difference comes from the format.
