A self-published author can produce an audiobook sample, six quote cards and a 30-second captioned trailer for $1.105 on Sume, in time for the gift-buying window that runs from Black Friday, November 27 to Christmas Day, Friday, December 25. That is 28 days of selling after Black Friday, and the assets are cheap enough to test two or three versions.

The sample is the first 8,000 characters of the book read by a generated voice. It is a preview, not an audiobook edition; platforms that sell audiobooks have their own rules for synthetic narration, so check those before you plan a full release.

Line items

Audiobook sample: text to speech at $0.0475 per 1,000 characters makes 8,000 characters $0.38. A single request that would run past 1,200 seconds fails, so if your sample is longer, split it at a paragraph. Quote cards: six Seedream 4.5 images at $0.05 are $0.30; put the quote text in your design tool and keep the image to a background so spelling stays in your hands.

Trailer: generate one music bed for $0.125, render a 30-second timeline with the six cards as stills and the bed as the soundtrack for $0.10, and burn the tagline and review quote as captions for $0.20. The music is background only, with no vocals needed, and you can reuse the same bed for the next book.

Using it well

Put the sample where a reader already is: the product page, the newsletter and a pinned post. Keep it honest by labelling the narration as generated and by quoting only reviews that are real and that you have permission to use. Do not invent endorsements for the trailer, and do not use a living narrator's voice without a contract.

If the sample runs long or the voice mispronounces a character name, fix the script and rerun; a re-run of the sample is $0.38 and the trailer is $0.30, so a full redo of the kit costs well under a dollar, and the figures are small enough to run three trailer variants and see which one gets clicks.

Treat the cost as the small part. The time goes into choosing the 8,000 characters: start where the stakes are set, end on a question, and avoid spoilers for the last act. Test the sample on one reader who has not seen the book, and ask where they stopped listening.
