Amazon online video ad specs: OLV size, length, bitrate
Amazon online video (OLV) ads run 6–120 s in 16:9, at least 1920×1080 and 4 Mbps, with 192 kbps AAC on 2+ channels and up to 500 MB site-served.

Amazon online video (OLV) ad specs: 16:9 video (9:16 only on Twitch and Amazon Publisher Direct), 6 to 120 seconds with an exact 6, 15, 20, 30, or 60 seconds recommended, at least 1920×1080 (1080×1920 vertical), at least 4 Mbps (8 recommended), a constant 23.976, 24, 25, or 29.97 fps, and AAC audio of 192 kbps or more at 44.1 or 48 kHz on two or more channels. Site-served files can be up to 500 MB.
Amazon's rules are quoted from its Online video (OLV) ad specs page, read on 2026-09-29; Amazon can change them. Sume facts come from the Timeline 1.0 and Video inspect docs and the Sume API reference. Anything called current behavior is read from Sume's code.
What are Amazon's OLV ad specs?
Amazon sets lower floors for third-party served video, which runs through Inline VAST 2.0 or 3.0 tags from an Amazon-certified vendor, than for files it serves itself:
| Spec | Site served | Third-party served |
|---|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 16:9; 9:16 on Twitch and Amazon Publisher Direct only | Same |
| Duration | 6 to 120 s | Same |
| Minimum frame size | 1920×1080; vertical 1080×1920 | 640×360; vertical 360×640 |
| Video bitrate | 4 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | 2 Mbps minimum |
| Frame rate | 23.976 (recommended), 24, 25, or 29.97; constant | Same |
| Audio | AAC, 192 kbps minimum, 44.1 or 48 kHz, 2+ channels | 128 kbps minimum |
| Codecs | H.264, MPEG-2, or MPEG-4 video; AAC audio | Same |
| Maximum file size | 500 MB | Not stated |
Where do Amazon online video ads run?
Amazon says OLV ads play in-stream, before, during, or after video content, and out-stream, between text and images, on desktop, mobile, and tablet. They appear on Amazon-affiliated properties like IMDb.com, Twitch, and Amazon Alexa, and on third-party publishers. Streaming TV and Prime Video have their own rules: see Prime Video ad specs.
How long should an Amazon OLV ad be?
Anything from 6 to 120 seconds is allowed, but Amazon recommends exactly 6, 15, 20, 30, or 60 seconds and says other durations may hurt campaign performance. It adds that shorter lengths drive a higher video completion rate, while scale on 6 seconds may be limited.
How do I make an Amazon OLV ad with Sume?
Assemble the spot with a Timeline 1.0 render (POST /v1/timeline-1.0/render) from media already in your workspace on media.sume.com, such as earlier Sume job outputs. The settings that map to Amazon's table:
audio.duration_seconds:15or30. It is the output length, so the file lands on one of Amazon's recommended durations.output:1920×1080, or1080×1920for a Twitch vertical. Timeline takes even sizes from 256 to 2160.output.fps:24or25. Timeline offers 24, 25, 30, and 60, and in current code an omittedoutput.fpsalso snaps to one of those four, so a render cannot come out at 23.976 (Amazon's recommended rate) or 29.97.- Audio: in current code the render encodes AAC at 192 kbps, Amazon's site-served minimum.
What should I check before I upload?
Timeline has no bitrate setting and refuses fields such as codec and crf with a 400, so check the finished MP4. POST /v1/video-inspect with frames: false is an unbilled probe that returns these fields:
size_bytes: 500 MB or less. Divided byduration_secondsand multiplied by 8, it gives the average bitrate to hold against the 4 Mbps floor; how to check a video's bitrate shows the math.audio_sample_rate: 44,100 or 48,000.audio_channels: 2 or more. In current code the render does not upmix a mono voiceover spine to stereo, so check this one.fps: it should match theoutput.fpsyou set. The probe does not report whether the rate is constant.
